Crime going down in Austin: What's the latest in the trend? - Aug ‘22



The number of crime incidents in Austin saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous increase, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 7,454 for Jul-2022 down from 8,096 for Jun-2022 (-7,9% change).


The offenses that decreased the most were vandalism and theft from motor vehicle. Vandalism fell to 409 incidents last month, from 496 the month before (-17.5% change). Theft from motor vehicle went from 1,000 to 846 (-15.4% change). There was also a decrease in shoplifting, from 121 incidents to 105 (-13.2% change).


Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of motor vehicle theft went from 422 to 469 (+11.1% change).
