Crime going down in Boston: What's the latest in the trend? - Jan ’23



The number of crime incidents in Boston saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 5,661 for Jan-2023 down from 6,442 for Dec-2023 (-12.1% change).



The offenses that decreased the most were Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property and Motor Vehicle Theft. Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property fell to 185 incidents last month, from 279 the month before. (-33.7% change). Motor Vehicle Theft went from 94 to 71 (-24.5% change).

Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Drug/Narcotic Violations went from 107 to 152 incidents (+42.1% change).
