Crime on the rise in Chicago: What's the latest in the trend? - Mar ’26

The number of crime incidents in Chicago saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents increased to 17,356 for Mar-2026 up from 15,532 for Feb-2026 (+11.7% change).



Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Vandalism went from 1,694 to 2,095 incidents (+23.7% change). Incidents of Aggravated Assault, went from 979 to 1,197 incidents (+22.3% change). Motor Vehicle theft went up from 1,364 to 1,522 incidents (+11.6% change).
