Crime on the rise in San Francisco: What's the latest in the trend? - May ’26

The number of crime incidents in San Francisco saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents increased to 7,614 for May-2026 up from 7,094 for Apr-2026 (+7.3% change).




Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Simple Assault went from 343 to 446 incidents (+30% change). Incidents of Drug/Narcotic Violations rose from 840 to 1,060 incidents (+26.2% change). Theft From Motor Vehicle went up from 348 to 389 incidents (+11.8% change).
