Crime declining in Chicago: What's the latest in the trend? - Jan ’23



The number of crime incidents in Chicago saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 18,410 for Dec-2022 down from 20,294 for Nov-2022 (-9.3% change).



The offenses that decreased the most were Shoplifting and Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property. Shoplifting fell to 651 incidents last month, from 759 the month before. (-14.2% change). Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property went from 2,429 to 2,155 (-11.3% change).

Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Robbery went from 857 to 904 incidents (+5.5% change). Incidents of Drug/Narcotic Violations rose from 282 to 290 (+2.8% change).
