The number of crime incidents in Chicago saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents increased to 19,234 for May-2022 down from 17,423 for Apr-2022 (+10.4 change).
The offenses that increased the most were aggravated assault and simple assault. Simple assault increased to 2,169 incidents last month, from 2,673 the month before (+23.2% change). aggravated assault went from 1,000 to 1,245 (+24.5% change).
There was also an increase in robbery, from 488 incidents to 561 (+15.0% change), and in theft from burglary, from 554 to 598 incidents (+7.9% change).
The offenses that decreased the most were drug/narcotic violations and shoplifting. Drug/narcotic violations fell to 336 incidents last month, from 364 the month before (-7.7% change) .There was also a decrease in shoplifting, from 673 incidents to 687 (-2.0% change).
