Crime declining in Houston: What's the latest in the trend? - Aug '23



The number of crime incidents in Houston saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 12,594 for Aug-2023 down from 13,029 for Jul-2023 (-3.3% change).

The offenses that decreased the most were Burglary/Breaking & Entering and Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property. Burglary/Breaking & Entering fell to 855 incidents last month, from 1,047 the month before. (-18.3% change). Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property went from 1,826 to 1,621 (-11.2% change).


Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Aggravated Assault went from 829 to 913 incidents (+10.1% change). Incidents of Drug/Narcotic Violations rose from 272 to 283 incidents (+4% change). Theft From Motor Vehicle went up from 2,010 to 2,050 incidents (+2% change).
