Crime declining in Philadelphia: What's the latest in the trend? - Jan ’23



The number of crime incidents in Philadelphia saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 11,869 for Jan-2023 down from 11,964 for Dec-2023 (-0.8% change).


The offenses that decreased the most were Theft From Motor Vehicle and Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property. Theft From Motor Vehicle fell to 719 incidents last month, from 882 the month before. (-18.5% change). Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property went from 1,176 to 1,034 (-12.1% change).


Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Drug/Narcotic Violations went from 232 to 303 incidents (+30.6% change). Incidents of Burglary/Breaking & Entering rose from 395 to 435 incidents (+10.1% change). Aggravated Assault went up from 582 to 635 incidents (+9.1% change).
