Crime declining in Boston: What's the latest in the trend? - Nov ‘21



The number of crime incidents in Boston saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 5,935 for Oct-2021 down from 6,300 for Sep-2021 (-5.8% change).


The offenses that decreased the most were shoplifting and aggravated assault. Aggravated assault fell to 129 incidents last month, from 150 the month before (-14.0% change). Shoplifting went from 213 to 164 (-23.0% change).


There was also a decrease in robbery, from 58 incidents to 52 (-10.3% change), and in vandalism, from 299 to 262 incidents (-12.4% change).


Among the few types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of simple assault went from 243 to 272 (+11.9% change). Incidents of theft from motor vehicle rose from 198 to 219 (+10.6% change.
