Crime declining in San Francisco: What's the latest in the trend? - May '23



The number of crime incidents in San Francisco saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 8,860 for May-23 down from 9,855 for Apr-2023 (-10.1% change).

The offenses that decreased the most were Theft From Motor Vehicle and Shoplifting. Theft From Motor Vehicle fell to 1,296 incidents last month, from 1,640 the month before. (-21% change). Shoplifting went from 196 to 160 (-18.4% change).

Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Robbery went from 192 to 243 incidents (+26.6% change). Incidents of Drug/Narcotic Violations rose from 302 to 358 incidents (+18.5% change). Motor Vehicle Theft went up from 738 to 774 incidents (+4.9% change).
